American Hawks Explorer II Metal Detector Reviews
In our research into this product we found most users think the American Hawks Metal Detector helpful. The construction is solid. It costs much less than other units with a digital readout. It does a good job at finding coins up to 6 inches down, and the discrimination function tells the difference between the various metals works well. It certainly helps you to avoid digging junk like pull tabs which are everywhere.
Like all metal detectors, there is a learning curve to get the most from this unit. Follow the detailed instruction on the manual. You will get most coins and jewelry though you will miss some gold. If you need to find property boundary markers, set it on “All Metal”.
If you want to detect on the beach, hit the “Disc” button and turn the “Sensitivity” down for less sensitivity. Coils are waterproof and rinse after each day’s use.
One reviewer complained that the American Hawks Explorer II Metal Detector was not working well at the beginning. It started beeping right away when you turn on the switch. Then after five minutes of trying to re-find the spot where it beeped he might be able to start the long digging process.
The box has no “American Hawks” on it, just a printed “Digital metal detector”. It seems not professionally put together. Beyond the sketchy box, they did provide a decent bag. The device detected some coins in the grass but not always with accuracy.
There are few reviewers doubt its accuracy. It has some difficulty capturing the presence of a gold object but it does pickup other metals quickly and with a strong signal with the “All Metal Mode” turned on. All in all, this is a good metal detector for a reasonable price.
